About Lillian Burkart

Lillian Burkart is founder and President of Burkart Flutes and Piccolos in Shirley, Massachusetts. As a flutist, innovator, and entrepreneur, Lillian is passionate in her drive to craft high quality instruments for all aspiring, amateur, and professional flutists. A graduate of the Philadelphia Music Academy, she worked as a professional musician and flute teacher with Settlement Music Schools for four years prior to entering a career in flute making.

Lillian founded the Burkart Flute Company in 1983, specialising first in the piccolo. Her betterments to headjoints, key work, intonation, vented keys, the G# facilitator, and the new multi-trill key have propelled the piccolo to meet the demands of exciting new solo repertoire written for it.
The Burkart Flute was premiered in 1996 and has led Lillian to the development of new materials, pads, the micro-link mechanism, and modernised flute building techniques. These techniques have allowed Lillian to introduce her professional line of moderately priced instruments to the flute community, beginning with the Resona piccolo followed by the Resona Flute.
