  • Mosman Art Gallery 1 Art Gallery Way Mosman, NSW, 2088 Australia (map)

We are thrilled to announce an evening with the scintillating Singapore-based Flute and Piano duo of Roberto Álvarez (flute) and Kseniia Vokhmianina (piano), performing a vibrant program based on their wonderful 2022 album, "The Whirlwind Within"!

Both highly-regarded and awarded international solo and ensemble musicians, Roberto and Kseniia came together for their debut album in 2022, presenting “colourful and refreshing repertoire that they hope will spin listeners’ emotions with a touch of jazz, folk, classical and latin styles”.

In their concert series in Melbourne and Sydney, they are presenting the Australian premieres of works by James Rae, Daniel Sánchez Velasco, Gonzalo Casielles Camblor and Pablo Aguirre.

After hearing Roberto and Kseniia perform their works, the composers had these delighted comments:

James Rae"It is a true privilege to have a recording of my music by such world-class performers as Roberto Álvarez and Kseniia Vokhmianina. Their interpretation was exactly' what I had in mind when I composed the work."

Daniel Sánchez Velasco - "...their interpretation of my 'Dance Preludes' has left me speechless. I have no doubt they have improved my work with their artistry."

ROBERTO ALVAREZ

Diversity of styles is a hallmark of Roberto’s concerts and recitals. As a matter of fact he feels just as comfortable performing classical, baroque or avant-garde music as well as celtic, jazz or rock.

He has received various international prizes, such as the Diploma of Honor in the Torneo Internazionale di Musica, Concurso Internacional de Música “Paper de Musica” de Capellades, the Ángel Muñíz Toca Award and the Ciutat de Manresa Prize.

Chamber music and orchestra playing are two of Roberto’s passions. He has performed with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, the Asturias Symphony Orchestra, Oviedo Filarmonía, Bach-Akademie, the Algarve Orchestra, the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra, Malaysian Philarmonic, working with the most renowned conductors.

He shows his interest not only in classical formations, but has also participated in several jazz and folk groups, always looking for new sonorities for the flute, and has performed the music of his region, Asturias, all over the World. Roberto’s passion for new music has led him to perform World Premieres very often in his recitals and recordings.

In addition to his performances he is an enthusiastic flute teacher, having given masterclasses in Youth Orchestras and several conservatories and festivals. He currently teaches at the School of the Arts and Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, in Singapore, and at the Princess Galyani Vadhana Institute of Music, in Thailand. Roberto is the Solo Piccolo at the Singapore Symphony Orchestra since July 2007.
