Custom Headjoints from Haynes
The Q Fusion comes with a Haynes Custom Headjoint.
The first breath of air that touches the flute establishes the relationship between the player and their music. This is the beginning of a partnership that should bring soaring joy, profound passion, and lasting artistic satisfaction. The subtlest of nuances in a headjoint can affect the delicate balance of sound, response and projection that every headjoint maker strives to achieve.
The master headjoint makers at Haynes are highly trained flutists, who have the focus and tenacity required to handcraft every Haynes headjoint into an archetype of the Haynes sound.
This is not a task for the faint-hearted. The end results are artistically stimulating headjoints which offer flutists color, response, depth, imagination and vibrancy.
Haynes offers three styles of Custom headjoints: the N Cut, the P Cut and the S Cut. These siblings have much in common, yet each has its unique traits.
P Cut
The P Cut is named in honor of Piedmont Street, in the center of downtown Boston, where the Haynes workshop was located from 1953 to 2010. Like its namesake, the P style provides a stable road for the flutist to travel and discover new aspects of their sound.
Complex overtones, an easy legato and dolce in all registers, a lively attack, an easy projection, combined with a wide and flexible color and dynamic spectrum makes this headjoint a satisfying and popular choice.
N Cut
The N Cut was originally named after Boston’s Newberry Street, but following a complete redesign in 2016, we decided to name this new incarnation in honor of the Nagog Wetlands that surround the current Haynes workshop in Acton, Massachusetts. In nature there is beauty and complexity, which is reflected in the N style. The N Cut encourages the player to move off the beaten path and explore.
Feeling perhaps more dangerous, with moments of exhilaration, this headjoint is designed to inspire, challenge and spark the creativity and imagination of the flutist, allowing the discovery of new destinations for your sound and music-making.
S Cut
The S Cut headjoint is named after Stanhope Street, the home of the Haynes Brothers in the late 1890’s. This headjoint aims to bring all of the depth and brilliance associated with our P and N Cut headjoints to a wider audience.
A larger target, an easier response, putting fewer demands on the player while multiplying possibilities in color, projection, dynamics and articulation.
A welcoming resonance, an approachable sophistication, creating the opportunity for more and more people to enjoy the Haynes Sound.
